Aerial & Freeview FAQ’s:

Q. How do I get Freeview?

It is easy to get Freeview, most new TVs come with Freeview built-in, here are some ways you can get Freeview with your existing TV. A digital box plugs into the back of your TV via a scart socket. Boxes start from around £20. HSD Services can supply these boxes on request. We can also upgrade or install from scratch the required aerial to ensure you are ready for the digital switchover.
If your TV does not have a scart socket, you can buy a digital box that contains a RF modulator and output which allows you to connect to the RF socket on your TV. (Please check with your electrical retailer or ourselves, as only a few boxes are set up this way).
Freeview+ digital TV recorders also have Freeview inside and allow you to pause, record and rewind live TV.

Q. Do I need a subscription to get Freeview?

You do not need to subscribe to Freeview; there is only a one off payment and no contract to sign. All you need to do is check you are in a Freeview coverage area before you buy a digital box or digital TV. To do this visit: www.freeview.co.uk/availability If are not in coverage now then you may need to wait for the digital TV switchover. The whole of the UK will go digital between 2008-2012 When your area goes digital, you should be able to see the Freeview channels. Again you can check this at: www.freeview.co.uk/availability

Q. Can I watch Freeview using a portable set-top / loft aerial?

Some households receiving a strong signal will be able to use a set top aerial. This only applies if you live in a strong coverage area. Loft aerials, as being inside means the digital signal strength is reduced. They're also more susceptible to interference from the other electrical equipment within your home. HSD Services are happy to visit your home and complete a free survey / quotation to determine exactly what equipment you may need. And the best location of any equipment required.

Satellite TV FAQ’s

Q. What equipment do I need to view satellite TV?

You will need a TV, satellite receiver (depending on what satellite service you receive will depend on what receiver you will require) HSD Services can talk you through the different types available. And the services that will best suit your needs. You will also require a satellite dish. The size of this will vary depending on what type of service you wish to receive. From SKY & Freesat, to Hotird and Turksat.

Q. Where does the satellite dish need to be mounted?

The satellite dish needs to be mounted in an area so that a clear line of sight from the dish to the satellite signal can be obtained. Any structures, large trees etc will stop a full signal from being received. Greatly reducing your viewing pleasure. Please contact us to discuss this, HSD Services are happy to complete a free survey at your property to establish the best location for your dish. To ensure the best results in terms of the viewing experience you receive. But also taking into account preserving the look of your property.

Q. What is a communal aerial/satellite system?

A communal system is normally introduced into blocks of flats and commercial property. It enables the installation of satellite and aerial services. These are then distributed out to the individual units or rooms. This enables the removal of lot’s of satellite dishes/aerials from the building. Ensuring the whole building is being served from one point. The can greatly improve the overall look of a building, as there will not be any need for any additional satellite dishes/aerials to be installed around the building. Also the cabling will be run together in a professional manor to ensure it does not detract from the property. HSD Services specialise in communal systems. Please contact us to discuss this further should you feel this could be of use to yourself.
